There was a lovely surprise today when I logged on looking for photos of the Duke and Duchess at the Commonwealth Games – Princess Charlotte joined her parents at the Games! Here you see the seven-year-old meeting Perry, the mascot for the Games.
More from Simon Perry’s People story.
The outing marks the first time Charlotte has attended a royal event alongside her parents on her own. She is typically accompanied by her older brother Prince George, 9, and younger brother Prince Louis, 4. George has attended a handful of solo events with his parents over the years.
This year there are athletes from 72 different Commonwealth countries participating in the Games. The first stop for the royals: the aquatic center.
A very quick video.
Some very special guests are in attendance today.

The family as they took in the action.
From The Telegraph’s story.
The Cambridge family appeared deep in conversation about the swimming heats, pointing out competitors and discussing the sport before them
The Royal Family have been supporting the Commonwealth Games en masse this year, with the Wessexes due to attend most days.
Another view.
The Princess offered a big thumbs up on the swimming.
The family also spent time with young athletes at SportsAid House. Here you see them arriving.

More about the visit via The Daily Mail’s coverage.
The little royal, seven, joined her mother Kate Middleton, 40, and her father Prince William, 39, for a visit to a programme supporting young athletes on a busy day of engagements at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. During the outing, the family met a group of young athletes and support staff at SportsAid House and heard about the support they are receiving from the Futures programme.
Futures aims to better prepare athletes to deliver medal-winning performances as Team England, Team GB or ParalympicsGB debutants at future Games, while giving support staff a first-hand look at the opportunities they could be presented with, and challenges they may face, at a multi-sport competition.
Another quick video.

More about the visit from Hello’s coverage.
Tim Lawler, the chief executive of Sports Aid, said: “I did notice the Duke and the Duchess, as we were trying to do, include Charlotte in the conversations – we were very mindful of that and it was really very evident the Duke and Duchess were doing that to, I suppose, include her and reassure her.
“She really, really loved seeing the swimming, but she’s interested in the gymnastics, and while they’re trying lots of different sports at home, I understand, when I asked her about sport she answered very easily and said, ‘It’s gymnastics that I like.'”
The Princess and her parents posed for a SportsAid group photo.
A closer view.
In the afternoon, the Cambridges watched a women’s hockey match between India and England. You also see the Earl and Countess of Wessex in this photo.
The family also watched some of the gymnastics competition, something she very much enjoyed. At the SportsAid engagement, the Princess revealed that her favorite sport was gymnastics.
The Princess was able to meet some of the British gymnasts, here you see her with Team England’s Ondine Achampong (L) and Alice Kinsella (R).
Both women are part of the team that took the Gold Medal in the team competition.
Now for our look at what Princess Charlotte wore, beginning with her dress by Rachel Riley dress, long one of the Duchess’s favorite labels for the Cambridge children. The Navy Breton Stripe Jersey Dress ($65) is made in a 95% cotton/5% elastane blend, described as a ‘comfy day dress’ by the brand.
A closer look at the lace-trimmed collar and the buttons up the back of the garment.
The dress is also available in a pretty pink and white stripe ($65). Thanks to Found by Bojana and Japanese Ginger for their speedy dress ID!
The Princess was in shoes that looked like a La Coqueta style, another brand favored by the Duchess. She appeared to be wearing the company’s White Siena Sandals (£32, about $39 at today’s exchange rates).
With thanks to Bojana for another fabulous ID, the Siena styles feature leather straps and a rubber sole. This shoe is offered in several other colors.
Also today, a very quick note about a cute video posted on Kensington Palace social media accounts Sunday morning ahead of the Lionesses (England’s women’s football team) European Championship Final match against Germany. In the video, both Prince William and Princess Charlotte share their support for the team.
Good luck tonight @Lionesses, we’re all cheering for you! pic.twitter.com/ATsLg6QHIF
— The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (@KensingtonRoyal) July 31, 2022
The Lionesses won the match, besting Germany 2 – 1. As the BBC put it, “England created history by winning their first major women’s tournament in a dramatic Euro 2022 final against old rivals and eight-time champions Germany at Wembley.”
It looked like Princess Charlotte wore a Navy Printed Tee by Losan, a Spanish brand. Unfortunately, the piece is no longer available. Thanks to Royal Fashion Police via their follower aleksandraspesic for the ID.
If looking for a repli-Charlotte, Old Navy offers a very similar style as part of a two-pack of tees for $8, and there is also this $5 style for toddler girls.
We’ll leave you with one more photo from today, a fun shot as Charlotte reacts to the swimming competition.
I’m really impressed with this Rachel Riley pick on Charlotte, the dark blue with stripes adds a quiet touch of sophistication compared with the all-too-familiar smocked florals she has been wearing. Despite this being the latest take on blue-and-white stripes, the style still looks fresh on the Princess. The dress still has a delightfully sweet Peter Pan collar, complete with lace trim, just to keep her age-appropriate. The box pleats are pretty as well as comfortable so the Princess has plenty of room to stretch into whatever post she pleases. I love the little La Coqueta sandals.
