As we hoped, a new photo of Prince George has been released to mark his ninth birthday.
The image was shot earlier this month by the Duchess of Cambridge while the family was on vacation. A statement accompanying the photo notes, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to share a new photograph of Prince George ahead of his ninth birthday tomorrow.” Below you see how the photo is captioned on the official Kensington Palace social media posts.
Many noted a strong resemblance between the Prince and his father in the new picture. More from this Town and Country story.
One thing was clear from the snap: the Windsor family genes are strong. Prince George looks just like his dad, Prince William at age 9. Both royals have the same sandy blonde hair—with a similar hair cut—and the same buck-toothed smile.
And here is a tweet noting the same.

You can see how the Prince has grown since his last birthday photo.
His official birthday photos really show the changes. Below, ages one through five.
And here are ages six through nine.
The occasion was marked musically.

We have seen a little more of Prince George this past year than in 2020/2021 with the COVID lockdowns. Below, in the family’s holiday card photo.
Here you see Prince George attending a rugby match with his parents in February.
At the service of thanksgiving for Prince Philip in late March.
Attending Easter services in April.
At this year’s Trooping the Colour service during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend in June.
It was the first time we saw any of the Cambridge children in the traditional carriage procession.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte joined their parents for their first official engagements in Wales during the celebratory weekend.
At the Platinum Jubilee concert.
Also that weekend, we saw Prince George in photos of the Cambridge children baking with their mother.
And attending the Jubilee Pageant.
On the Buckingham Palace balcony after the pageant.
We also saw Prince George just ten days ago at Wimbledon.
It was the first time the Prince attended the championships.
As The Telegraph writes in this story, autumn will bring changes for the Cambridge family.
The family will relocate from Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage, a four-bedroomed property just a stone’s throw from Windsor Castle.
The move will take them closer to the Duchess’s family in Bucklebury, Berkshire, as well as being within walking distance of the Queen, 96. The vast Windsor estate will give the children more scope to play, ride horses and walk their dog in privacy.
The young royal and future king turns nine on Friday and, according to reports, will start at Lambrook School, in Ascot, near Windsor Castle, later this year. For the first time, Prince Louis, four, will join Prince George, nine and Princess Charlotte, seven, as they don their uniforms ready to embark on a new school year.
The Duke and Duchess will also be on hand to do the school run and immerse themselves in busy prep school life, with its many sporting and social activities.
Now for what Prince George is wearing in the new photo. It very much looks like a J. Crew shirt, the brand’s Short-Sleeve Garment-Dyed Polo ($25.87 with promo code APLUS) in a color called Amalfi Blue.
With thanks to TracyInn on the WKW Facebook page for the ID, the piece is all cotton with a three-button front placket and chest pocket.
Here is one more round of montages, these showing headshots from the Prince’s birthday photos.
Happy Birthday, Prince George!
I wonder why the Cambridges are leaving Kensington Palace with it’s 4 stories and ample room for a 4 bedroom cottage? It seems rather odd to me. I suppose in time that we will find out. I find it curious why Kate took several different poses of Charlotte and Louis but only one of George? Enquiring minds need to know. I love this site!
