A delightful photo has been released to mark Prince Louis’s third birthday tomorrow.
The picture was taken by his mother at Kensington Palace yesterday as the young man was about to leave for his first day of nursery school. He is attending Willcocks Nursery School in Kensington, which Princess Charlotte attended. The photo was released this afternoon via social media.
Who can forget the colorful photos of the Prince released for his second birthday?
Including the additional picture showing paint all over the young man’s face.
A look at three years of Prince Louis birthday photos.
Because of the pandemic, we haven’t seen as much of the young man as we normally would; there was no Trooping the Colour or procession to church this year. We did see him in a Clap for Our Carers video last April.
For Father’s Day in June, the Duke and Duchess released some lovely photos of all three children that Kate took. Including this pile-on.
And this picture.
We were treated to a photo of Prince Louis last September with Princess Charlotte and Prince George as they prepared for a special movie screening at Kensington Palace with their parents and Sir David Attenborough.
Another image from that event.
We were delighted to see a video related to that get-together as the children quizzed Sir David Attenborough about the natural world.
Sir David Attenborough, we’ve got some questions for you…??️? pic.twitter.com/MTQ68WnOrt

Prince Louis famously asked the renowned naturalist and broadcaster, “What animal do you like?”
In early December, the Cambridge children walked the red carpet at London’s Palladium.
They were there to see a performance of Pantoland at the Palladium, and Prince Louis looked terrific in an Amaia Kids boiled wool jacket previously worn by his older brother.
About a week later, we saw the family’s Christmas card photo, taken by Matt Porteous.
Last week a ‘new old’ photo that includes Prince Louis was released.
It showed a very young prince on his great-grandmother’s lap. The Duchess of Cambridge took the photo at Balmoral Castle in 2018; it shows HM and Prince Philip with seven of their great-grandchildren: Prince George, Prince Louis (on HM’s lap), Princess Charlotte, Savannah Phillips (behind Charlotte), Isla Phillips holding Lena Tindall, and Mia Tindall.
Here you see all three Cambridge children in third birthday photos.
(The photo of Princess Charlotte was not officially a birthday photo; it was the photo Kensington Palace used when thanking everyone for birthday wishes sent to the princess.)
Happy Birthday, Prince Louis!
Prince Louis is wearing what appears to be the Adidas Duramo Sneaker ($42.99) in toddler sizes, with thanks to Pauline for that tip.
I have not looked for his sweater, shorts, or shirt, but will do so later tonight and update the post as needed.
For those curious about his bicycle, UFO No More reports it is the Frog Tadpole Balance Bike (£190, about $260). Frog is a UK company that specializes in making childrens’ bikes.
The bike is described as “effectively a toddler’s bike without pedals and helps a child to develop the necessary balance to cycle. A great alternative to using training wheels.”
What a precious smile – similar to his mother, his lights the day. Fun to see the side-by-side with his grandfather. Wonderful ensemble and I had NO idea about these bikes. Goodness.
May his orbit shine brightly.
Louis is absolutely the man of the moment on his starter bike. I remain baffled as to how you can learn balance on a bike without pedals as I never knew a stationary one that stayed upright with me on top of it. I feel there is evidence to support my theory in the scuff that is already present on the toe of one of his first-day-at-new-school Adidas Duranmo sneakers, which otherwise look very comfortable.
He is so smart with his stripy shirt collar over blue sweatshirt and his shorts are neat enough to show off his personal version of the family long legs. He looks raring to go!
Louis is adorable! The shorts could almost be the same as those worn last June in the ‘Dad and kids’ photos.
I agree, the shorts look very similar to the ones he’s wearing in the Father’s Day pictures and also possibly the same ones seen on George in the newly released picture of him with Prince Philip.
I also think Louis might be wearing the Trotters Navy Ankle Socks worn before by George also.
I agree, this is Mayoral short Louis wore in dad and children day and George wore with his grand mother playing.
