Today Kensington Palace released the Cambridge family’s 2020 Christmas card.
In the image, you see Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis with their parents at the family’s Anmer Hall home this fall. (This is the card I referenced in Friday’s post that I didn’t want to publish until the release was official.)
The photo was taken in the fall by Matt Porteous, who has does many other photos for the family, including this one used for a special Mother’s Day message this year.
As well as the images of the Cambridge children trying out their mother’s Back to Nature Garden at the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show.
Another picture from that flower show shoot.
The photographer also took Prince George’s fifth birthday photos, and the picture used for the family’s 2018 Christmas card.
The image used for last year’s card was taken by the Duchess of Cambridge.
Now for a look at what the Children are wearing for this year’s card.
We’ll begin with Prince George, who was wearing a piece by Regatta, a British heritage brand offering outdoor apparel, footwear, and camping gear.
The style is the brand’s Kids’ Hot Shot II Lightweight Half-Zip Fleece in the dark khaki colorway. The product is sold out at Premier Camping, where the product images above are from. It is still offered in several colors at the Regatta US site ($8), and in different colors and sizes at Amazon. Many thanks to Georgie’s Mum for sharing her ID of the top with us.
Prince George is wearing a checked shirt beneath his fleece top. The shirt appears to be this Thomas Brown style, the Camel/Brown Check Shirt ($39) as offered at Trotters.
Princess Charlotte was in the Ralph Lauren Intarsia Sampler Sweater (no longer available).
The sweater is a blend of wool, cotton, and nylon. The piece has a sampler-inspired scene with a home, flowers, and alphabet letters, as well as puffed sleeves, mismatched shoulder buttons, and ribbing at the collar, cuffs, hem, and left shoulder seam. Many thanks to Laura for her fab ID. The design is still available as a dress ($84.99).
I haven’t been able to search yet for Charlotte’s blouse, but it’s fun to see her matching the ruffled collar with her mother’s ruffled collar.
It looks like she is in a pair of leggings or jeggings with a stitched center seam.
UPDATE DEC 17: We have two good suggestions for the leggings. Both have the center-stitched seam you see on Charlotte’s pair. On the left, Queen Mummy’s suggestion, the H & M Treggings ($14.99) in a blend of 95% cotton with 5% elastane for stretch. With the decorative gold buttons, they somewhat resemble Kate’s nautical-look trousers, so you can see why this style might have appeal. On the right, Ralph Lauren’s Stretch Cotton-Blend Legging ($45), a great suggestion from Kit Fletcher. The Ralph Lauren style has a vertical seam midway down that I highlight below with the yellow arrows, and I’m not sure Charlotte’s pair has that, at least from what we see in the photograph. There’s really no way to say if either of these is what Charlotte is wearing, or if it’s another pair altogether, but both suggestions are good!
In terms of footwear, the Princess took a page from her mother’s style book, wearing a pair of Penelope Chilver’s boots. More specifically, the Mini-Me Midcalf Tassel Boot (£259, about $345 at today’s exchange rates).
The Mini-Me style is a limited run from Penelope Chilvers. From the company’s product description: “Our Mini Midcalf Tassel boots are made in the same artisanal way as our classic women’s Tassel boot collection, even down to the distinctive Penelope Chilvers tassels. These adorable leather boots have the warmest fleece lining, full exterior zip fastening – that makes it easy for little ones to get their feet in.” Many thanks to Middleton Maven for her ID of the boots.
Below, the Duchess in her oft-worn Penelope Chilvers Tassel Boots. On the left, at Blenheim Palace in 2004, and on the right, wearing them in Bhutan in 2016.
Now for Prince Louis, who looked like he was having a terrific time during the photo shoot.
He is in a navy blue sweater with a chest pocket, buttons at the left shoulder (like Charlotte’s sweater), ribbing at the cuffs, neckline, and hem. It is worn atop a madras (I think) shirt with grey fine-whale corduroys. UPDATE DEC 21: Sadly, I’ve yet to locate either the shirt or sweater, the latter being something I thought would be relatively easy to find. After looking at hundreds upon hundreds of navy boys’ jumpers/sweaters with one pocket and ribbing at the collar, cuffs and hem, I am flummoxed. JAN 11, 2021 UPDATE: Here is a closeup of Prince Louis that shows just a bit of the pocket, the ‘v’ detailing at the neck, and the blue/green plaid shirt he is wearing.

Hi, Jess, and thank you for commenting! What a great sweater, and a nice “repli-Louis,” too. It doesn’t seem to have the pocket that the sweater Prince Louis is wearing has; I added a closeup to the post today that hopefully shows some of the details better. (I was finally able to find a higher-resolution photo than what was available when the photo was originally released.) Thank you, Jess! 🙂
Hi! Have you checked this Pepa and company sweater? It is navy and has two buttons:

Hopefully it helps
Hi, Amy, and thank you for the tip, it’s a good one! The Pepa & Co. jumper is very similar to what Louis is wearing, but the Pepa sweater has dark buttons that look like they might be covered in leather or faux leather, while his are white plastic or mother-of-pearl. It’s a nice repli-Louis, for lack of a better term! 🙂
Nice family. Pretty jumper on Charlotte, George’s Regatta top is very smart. Louis definitely steals the show, he has in interesting colour in his cords. Can’t believe they make those boots so small for Charlotte.
I am wondering why Prince Louis isn’t in shorts as I thought upper class boys in England did? There were times Prince George had shorts on and it looked cold out so I don’t think it’s the weather.
That is a good question, Carol. My guess is that they just made a decision to put Louis in long trousers sooner rather than later. (But that’s merely my speculation.) 🙂
Maybe they have decided to go for a more casual family look for some of their photo sessions. I imagine that he will still be in shorts for more formal events with the extended family, when they start getting together again (Trooping the Colour, Christmas, Platinum Jubilee events, etc.)
Hi, any idea what Louis is wearing, it would be nice to know. All the children look lovely and happy. A lovely picture. Thank you.
Hi, Angela, I wish I had some info for you, but I have come up empty on both the sweater and the shirt, the two items with the most distinctive design elements. 🙁
I love that George wore an $8 fleece!

Hi Yas, and thank you for the suggestion. It’s a good one! These look similar but they do not have the center seam going down the front of the leg seen on Charlotte’s pair. (It’s really tough to see that detail in the photo from the Palace, I think.) 🙂
It is always so much fun to see how Kate has her kids decked out. It is always so classic and tasteful. Thank you for creating this site. It’s great!
