We had a delightful surprise this morning when seeing photos pop up of Prince George and Princess Charlotte watching their parents compete at the King’s Cup!
The young royals were out on the water just off the Isle of Wight to cheer on their parents at the sailing regatta. Below, George, Charlotte (just inside the wheelhouse), and grandparents Michael and Carole Middleton (navy jacket) joined others taking in the race action. Catherine Wylie of the UK Press Association reported that Prince Louis was also in Cowes, where the race is held.
More from The Daily Mail:
Prince William, 37, and his competitive wife, 37, raced against each other and six teams skippered by celebrities in the inaugural King’s Cup regatta off the Isle of Wight today.
The historic King’s Cup was first presented by King George V at Cowes’ Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920. Below, the King at the helm during the 1924 King’s Cup.
Today eight different boats represented charities supported by William and Kate; the event was a fundraiser for the organizations.

It sounds like the Prince had a very exciting day; more from Victoria Murphy’s Town & Country story:
And it wasn’t just Charlotte who gave the crowd a surprise. Adventurer Bear Grylls—whose team won the race—said George had eaten his “first ant” that day. While picking up his trophy he said, “And also Prince George, your first ant you ate today. And that is a great moment. Well done you.”
A darling shot of the Princess as the Cambridges and Middletons headed to the awards presentation after the races.
Emily Nash of Hello! reports that “George and Charlotte enjoyed a fun morning on the foreshore in Cowes, taking part in family activities including a tug-of-war with “Pirate Pete” bubbles, and a magician ahead of the afternoon’s racing.”
Now for what the pair wore.
We’ll begin with Princess Charlotte, who appeared to be wearing the Fit and Flare Sleeveless Stripe dress by Ralph Lauren Kids (£90, about $110 at today’s exchange rates).
Both the dress and lining are 100% cotton. The frock features a classic seersucker stripe, with a Peter Pan collar, princess seaming at the bodice, and back buttons with a hook and eye at the waist. The dress is offered in pink and white on the Ralph Lauren US site ($20.99 with promo code STYLE), as well as a dress/bloomers set for infant sizes ($15.59) with promo code STYLE.
With thanks to Pauline for the tip, Charlotte appears to have been wearing a Loom bracelet.
For those unfamiliar with them (as I was!), the bracelets are made of little plastic bands, made by using a pegboard. The boards, bands and other items are sold in kits or separately, like the Cra-Z-Loom ($12.89 at Target) shown below. (Who knew?!)Prince George was in a nautically themed polo shirt from H&M, one from the brand’s 2-Pack Polo Shirt Set ($14.99).
The style is 100% cotton piqué knit with a ribbed collar, button front placket, and embroidered anchor logo. Like the Prince’s other H&M polo shirt, this is from the retailer’s LOGG line ( Label of Graded Goods), H&M’s line of preppy-style designs. There is also a 2-pack featuring an automobile theme.
Prince George was in a pair of cargo shorts that haven’t been identified. UPDATE AUG 13: We can also thank Pauline for the ID on George’s belt, it looks like the Vaello Deep Blue Elastic Belt (€15, about $17). George previously wore a belt from the brand during the 2017 Germany tour. In some photos, you can see George is also wearing his Hampton Court Canvas sneakers.
Many thanks to The Daily Mail’s Caroline Parr for her IDs of both Charlotte’s dress and George’s shirt.

I don’t know a lot about British brands but I think George short is from Gap. I saw a picture from back and I think we could read GAP on the pocket.
I think that Charlotte might have been wearing her navy sneakers from trotters. You can see them in a couple of photos
Seersucker is a favorite from my own childhood. It’s so cool and looks so fresh. I still wear it (I have a jacket, a blouse and a dress) and am happy to see its resurgence.
Does anybody know the maker of the life vest both of them wore?
I am looking for ages for such a dark navy one for my daughter.
These actually look like adult life jackets. They don’t fit them. If you want something like them, Stohlquist makes a good one in red/grey and O’Neill makes three in blue. If you’re daughter is older (a teen), she may fit into adults.
I absolutely LOVE Charlotte in this……makes her look so grown up! ElizaMo said it perfectly – “a break-out from fussy florals into savvy stripes” – totally agree 😉
Im so happy to see her in this pretty dress – i had bought the dress in pink for my own little girl a month ago!! how exciting!
Well done!! That’s you well into the royal orbit!
George and Charlotte must be very warm-blooded children — neither seems the least bit chilled while almost everyone else is bundled up in jackets! It is such a treat to see Charlotte in something other than the smocked short sleeved dresses she’s worn since forever. She looks so grown up and I hope Kate realizes that nothing she can do will prevent people from wanting to dress their children in similar styles and that it’s important not to keep Charlotte dressed as a toddler. And George is certainly keeping the Tooth Fairy busy!
I am just so made up that Charlotte has debuted a designer label! And even better she has made a break-out from fussy florals into savvy stripes ? That is one cute frock with its little white collar and sleeveless bodice.
George meantime has worn breton stripes so his mum didn’t have to. It’s great he can look so good in High Street. His cargo shorts are seriously cool in the longer length. Despite the loss of both front teeth he continues to look tremendously cool. Thanks for a great post!
Just when I think I can’t love your comments any more than I do, you write “she has made a break-out from fussy florals into savvy stripes.” Well done! ❤️?
Aww shucks…it’s nuffin’ really!! 😀
I’m a bit surprised to see we have a fabric update mentioning seersucker as the fabric looked plain to me. Maybe it’s just a US way of describing that close-set style of stripe as I think of seersucker as being a a textured style of cotton, one which hides creases.
Well, there’s something new everyday. Turns out the word seersucker comes from Hindi for milk and sugar!! The lumpy sugar being referenced in the uneven texture of the fabric. My memory has clearly failed me as I forget the fabric being in stripes, but now I recall they were quite thick stripes on my school uniform. Charlotte’s pinstripes are waaay more cool!
