Happy Birthday, Prince George!
HRH will be six years old tomorrow, and Kensington Palace released three new photos of the young man to mark the occasion. It’s believed the photo with the green shirt was taken on the island of Mustique, where the Cambridge and Middleton families are said to be vacationing. Both George and Charlotte are on their summer break from school.
The other two pictures were shot in the garden at Kensington Palace. All three were taken by the Duchess of Cambridge.
The Palace thanked people for the birthday greetings they have been sending and also posting on social media.
This has been a fun year to watch the young man growing up, as we have seen a little more of him than we did in earlier years. At a September wedding, he looked like he was having a terrific time.
The same could be said at Princess Eugenie’s wedding when he was also a page boy.
We saw all three children in photographs that commemorated Prince Charles’s 70th birthday.
A closer look at both Princes with the Duchess.
George was relaxed in the family Christmas card photo.
On his way to the Queen’s Christmas luncheon, we had just a quick view of George.
In May George, Charlotte and Louis had a sneak peek at the Back to Nature Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show.
June was a treat, as we saw George, as well as Charlotte and Louis, at Trooping the Colour.
There was a July surprise when the Duchess took all three children to a charity polo match.
UPDATE JULY 22: Here is an additional photo from the polo July 10, shared today on Twitter by The Army in London. In the lower left corner, you see Domhnall, the mascot of The Irish Guards.
Here you see how the Prince has changed over the years.
We’re now at the point where it is difficult to fit all the photos in one montage unless they are headshots. Below, the first three birthdays we saw Prince George celebrate.
And the three most recent.
Now for our look at what Prince George wore in his new birthday photos. He appears to be in another H&M Polo Shirt (£5.99, roughly $7.50 at today’s exchange rates), in a color called dark green. The top is made of a piqué knit fabric made of 100% cotton. It has a button front, ribbed detail at the collar and sleeve hems, and tennis tails (the slits at the side, with slightly longer length in the back).
We show the prince’s shirt at the H&M UK site; that color doesn’t seem to be available on the US site. The shirt is available in many other colors on the US site, where it is $7.99. Thank you to Danielle Stacey for her speedy shirt ID.
The polo is from H&M’s LOGG line (Label of Graded Goods).
As mentioned in our post for George’s fifth birthday, the LOGG collection offers classic designs, many with a sense of preppy style. LOGG merchandise is offered in women’s and men’s sizes, as well as children’s.
George’s shorts look like they could be by Sunuva. It is a brand we have seen George wear before, a British-based company that specializes in clothing and swimwear made with UV-protective textiles.
Prince George appears to be wearing the Tailored Stripe Swim Shorts (£28, about $35). Made of a quick-drying fabric that provides UPF50 protection, the shorts have an adjustable waistband, front zipper, and back pocket. Our thanks to Princess Estelle Attire for the ID on these!
I think George is wearing this England soccer team jersey in the other two pictures. Patricia Treble explained why the shirt made perfect sense: “Prince George’s dad, aka Prince William, is president of the Football Association and a prominent supporter of the Lionesses during the World Cup.”
The top is made of Nike’s “breath” fabric, a lightweight polyester material that wicks moisture away from the body ($59.99 on the official team site; varying prices at Amazon). More about George’s fondness for football from Rebecca English’s Daily Mail story:
The prince has clearly inherited his father’s love for football – the Duke of Cambridge is president of the FA and an Aston Villa fan – as evidenced in his white England team top in two of the new portraits.
The Mail understands that while those pictures were taken at Kensington Palace during the England ‘lionesses’ recent World Cup campaign, the top is one of his favourite items of clothing and George can frequently be seen haring around Kensington Palace with a football at his feet.
It will be fun watching Prince George, and the other Cambridge children, in the coming year.
Is it possible that Charlotte has a small pin or piece of jewelry on the left mid to upper part of her dress? It looks like something is definitely there??
Yes, I think she does have something there. I zoomed in to look at it more closely, but couldn’t decipher anything more about it. 🙂
My first take was that it is a necklace – perhaps a locket. I imagine I see the chain crossing to the collar.
I love how real this family is. The kids look like darling and normal children and look very loved and unaware of their status, which is a positive thing. I love that they are allowed to have a real childhood.
Such a treat to see George clearly enjoying himself in his football shirt, and great capture by his mum. Oddly, he looks a little more apprehensive in his holiday photo, and possibly more grown up in his dark polo shirt which is more like school uniform. I love his swimming trunks which seem to have a distinct Edwardian vibe with their front fly. It’s nice that their blue-and-white stripes are no particular match with his top, making it look as if he’s just been popped into the first handy top around on the beach. He’s growing fast and becoming ever longer in limb and clearly set to be a royal star 🙂
So very sweet–loved seeing the ‘extra’ photo released from the charity polo match. It looks like Charlotte is seconds away from petting that dog!
You’re right– I hadn’t noticed that’s where her eyes were! Very cute
Too cute for words!!
Very sweet photos – and I have to add that I just love P. George’s hair – a real strawberry blond in the sunlight.
