George, Charlotte & Louis are Charming in New Christmas Card Family Photo

Posted on December 14, 2018 by WKKW

The Cambridge Christmas card photo was released today, and the children look just darling.

In the photo taken this autumn at Anmer Hall, the family’s country home in Norfolk, everyone is dressed casually. Prince George looks like he is having a terrific time balancing on a log; Princess Charlotte has a sweet smile and it is delightful to see a new photo of Prince Louis. The photographer who took the photo is a familiar name, Matt Porteous. Mr. Porteous also shot this classic photo from Prince Louis’s christening.

Other family photos he has taken include those for George’s third (l, c) and fifth (r) birthdays.

The picture is reminiscent of the 2015 family photo taken by Chris Jelf.

It is fun seeing how Charlotte and George have changed in just the last year.

Prince George in 2017 (l) and in the new photograph (r).

Now we’ll take a look at what the children wore, beginning with the newest addition to the family, Prince Louis. (That grin has done me in.)

For his first official Christmas card photo, Louis is wearing two pieces from Amaia Kids. One is the Mayfair top ($47), done in a cotton jersey knit with a piped poplin collar, and the other is the Griotte Bloomer in navy ($55). The Prince also has on what looks like the Alex pre-walker shoe by Early Days, a classic British pram shoe with a T-bar and button fastening. It is a style we saw several times on Prince George.

The bloomers were previously seen on his older brother in Christmas photos from 2014.

It’s difficult to tell if Louis is in the same bloomers that George wore, or if he is wearing a new pair. According to Monique Jessen’s People story, the Prince is wearing ribbed tights in navy, also from Amaia Kids. We haven’t yet identified the soft blue sweater Louis is wearing.

Princess Charlotte is wearing an item many of you will recognize, a navy cardigan sweater. We first noted Charlotte wearing it in a May photograph with her little brother.

But it was originally worn by Prince George in the Queen’s 90th birthday photo portrait done in 2016 by Annie Leibovitz.

The cardigan is by Spanish brand Fina Ejerique. It is a classic button-front style with ribbed trim at the collar, cuffs and placket.

Charlotte appears to be in a pair of Hunter boots, probably the ‘Original First Classic Rain Boot’ style. (You can just see part of the boot in the photo, and George is also wearing the style. More on that in a minute.) The Princess is wearing a ruffle-collar top just like that seen in the photo of her holding Prince Louis, and she has on a fine-waled corduroy skirt or dress in navy.

Now for what Prince George wore, starting with the most notable element in his outfit: he is wearing long trousers instead of shorts! In the new photo, he is wearing a pair of denim jeans.

The Prince also has on a checked shirt topped by a ribbed knit sweater in an olive green mélange; I’m still working on IDs for those two items.

UPDATE Dec. 15: In a comment on the post Wessy suggests George is wearing a sweater by Wild and Gorgeous, the brand’s Khaki Knitted Jumper. And Laura (@Japanese_Ginger) shared the Wild and Gorgeous Instagram post confirming this as well.

The piece is a viscose/wool/nylon/cotton/cashmere blend. Originally priced at £65, the style most recently sold at £30. The company confirmed on Instagram the Prince was wearing their merchandise, saying it is the “Bernie” style.

We have seen George wearing Wild and Gorgeous before, at the 2016 children’s party in Canada. Many thank to Wessy and Laura for their IDs of the sweater!

George is wearing boots by Hunter; it looks like the brand’s Original First Classic Rain Boot style. They are available at Hunter’s US site ($55), as well as at Nordstrom, at Saks, and also at Amazon. The boots are made in unisex sizes; I think Charlotte is also wearing this style.

The boot description notes they are “lined with cotton for comfort and feature a specially developed tread to reduce slipping. An ideal starter rain boot, the Original Kids First Classic Rain boot is designed for growing feet.”

This is really a wonderful photo, with the children looking relaxed and very comfortable, not quite as posed as the image used for last year’s card.

We should see Princess Charlotte and Prince George with their parents next week when they attend the Queen’s annual Christmas luncheon at Buckingham Palace. This is George with his mother last year.

And here we see Princess Charlotte with the Duchess.

I will update the post with any new information on the items that are not yet identified.

My children often wore tights and bloomers. Boy as well as the girls. Tights are great for all small children as it keeps them warm but not restricted. I have trawled the world of light blue jumpers and the closest o cake to Louis one was a Sara Louise jumper, part of a set . It has the same vertical panels but it’s not identical. I have checked every single baby clothing site I could find that sold pale blue baby sweaters and the Sara Louise one was the closest I could find. It’s the Sara Louise Dani baby knitted set

That sweater us very similar, but the sleeves are different, it’s a good repli Louis though. Even though it’s no longer available.

Katie is such a wonderful mother, always patient and loving with her children. It’s such a delight to see this family always seeming to enjoy each other and actually acting like a normal family. Kate is a credit to the Royal Family and will help these children grow up to be mentally stable adults.

I’m not sure that Louis shoes are the early days ones. I think they are the same style but maybe a different brand. There are many companies making those kinds of shoes and these look ever so slightly different to me. I’m not 100% sure but something seems different with the stitching /lining , to me.

    Hello everyone,
I believe prince George is wearing another type of Hunter wellies. I suppose these are kids first classic hunter wellies. Please note the edge of the tip of the wellie. Those mentioned in text don’t seem to have pattern on the edge.

All three children look so happy and natural in this picture, it’s simply a joy to see. For all the talk about clear resemblances to other family members, I’m struck as ever by how very individual child is, and think Kate is an expert mother to be able to let them develop so much in their own way.

I’m impressed as ever by all the IDs you manage to sleuth down for us, I confess I hadn’t even noticed Charlotte was also wearing wellingtons till I came here. I love her little girl posture, sticking out her tummy, and it’s fun to see her in a sweet skirt. George’s pose is priceless and I join those who rejoice in seeing him in long pants at last. I definitely covet his jumper, though I find the check of his shirt seems a bit out of keeping — but this is somehow in tune with the whole photo, everyone is in casual and relaxed, off-duty, and it’s wonderful.

I feel a bit for Louis in odd layers, I wonder how comfortable it might be to wear thick tights underneath short bloomers, but hopefully he keeps warm!

since this is a relaxed photo, it’s possible that Prince George will continue to wear shorts for formal occasions for a year or two more.

Hello, and thank you for the tip! It certainly looks like his sweater, and we know he’s worn the brand before. I will look more closely when back on the desktop (my hi-res images are on that hard drive), but I think you’ve nailed it. Thank you, West! 😊

Do British baby boys normally wear tights? I thought the wire knee socks?

Bless them for sharing……I’d forgotten how “round” P.George’s face was not too far removed and P.Charlotte is no longer a toddler…..thanks for the comparisons….and my family sure “handed down” many an outfit…..
