As hoped, new photos of Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte, and Prince George were released today. They were taken to commemorate Prince Charles’s 70th birthday, which is tomorrow.
There is one photo that is more formal, a classic posed portrait.
And there is another picture where the family is very relaxed; they appear to be sharing a laugh.
The images were taken by Chris Jackson in the gardens at Clarence House in September. In the photos, Prince Louis is wearing the same thing seen in a photo used in a BBC documentary about Prince Charles; The Daily Express published this picture from the documentary with Prince Charles, Prince Louis and the Duchess of Cambridge.
The Express story includes an interview with the Duchess of Cornwall:
Speaking about what Charles usually does with his grandchildren, she said: “He will get down on his knees and crawl about with them for hours, you know making funny noises and laughing and my grandchildren adore him, absolutely adore him.
He reads Harry Potter and he can do all the different voices and I think children really appreciate that.”
And a Daily Telegraph story has more about the Prince of Wales and his grandchildren.
“And, of course, he’s wonderful with children.
“He doesn’t mind crawling about on the floor for hours with them. We had a picture the other day with Louis pulling on his hair, and he’s not one of those people who says ‘take your hand away’. He loves it.
In the new pictures, Prince Louis looks just darling, very jolly and alert.
Louis is wearing the Carlina Boy Ceremony Set ($94) from La Coqueta Kids, a brand we know Kate has purchased from previously, and a brand we have previously profiled.
The set features a smocked white top with a Peter Pan collar piped in dusty blue and coordinating dusty blue bloomers. It is made of a blend of 77% cotton/33% polyester; La Coqueta says the set is fully lined. We previously featured the set in this post; the montage below shows the Carlina Baby Ceremony Romper, the Boys Carlina Ceremony Set, and the Carlina Girl Ceremony Dress.
Below, a close-up of the smocking. I believe most styles are sold out, but several of them may be pre-ordered.
There is another Boy’s Carlina with gold stitching, it is done in a linen/cotton blend. Our thanks to Andrea García Alonso for the tip on this!
Princess Charlotte is in a dress that looks much like the dress she wore for Trooping the Colour in June.
That piece has not yet been identified.
Charlotte may be in another pair of Doña Carmen shoes. They look like the brand’s Mary Jane Shoes in Leather in navy (€29.95, about $34).
UPDATE Nov 15: Doña Carmen confirm the Princess was wearing their Mary Janes.
UPDATE Nov 15: Papouelli tell me Charlotte was not wearing their Lottie Sock as I thought, so we are back to Square One on this item. I do believe her socks are very much like, if not identical, to those seen in the photo below so I will leave the picture up.
I’ve not found Charlotte’s shoes; they are a classic Mary Jane style in navy or black with a metal buckle (not velcro strips as many styles now have) and dark soles. I’m hoping hi-res images will be released at some point that will better show the details needed to properly identify things.
Prince George appears to be in a pair of navy corduroy shorts. My guess would be they are the Gull Corduroy Short in navy from Amaia Kids ($58.50).
His shirt is similar to (but not the same) as the Amaia Kids Pereprine style seen in the Prince’s official 4th birthday photo, as well as the family Christmas card. I think the stripe pattern in the new pictures is different than that in the shirt we’ve seen George wear previously.
UPDATE Nov 14: Originally I thought George was in his Papouelli loafers, but with some very helpful input from George here on Facebook, it’s time for a course correction: it now appears the Prince was wearing his Pisamonas loafers, the style seen for his first day of school last year.
He is also in knee socks that could be the Ribbed Knee Sock in navy from Papouelli(£7.95 – £9.95), or the same style from Amaia Kids, the Ribbed Knee High Socks ($9.10).
This is rather a quick glance at what the children are wearing in the photos; I hope to learn more and update the post later this evening or tomorrow.
Any ideas on Louis’s booties? Super cute.
Not yet. I’m beginning to wonder if someone knit them as a gift, I feel like I’ve looked at a gazillion booties!
Does anyone know when these photos were taken? It seems like they should’ve been taken a few months ago with Meghan Charlotte and Louis’ short sleeves. Unless England is warmer than I thought and October and November.
They were taken in September. 🙂
This is so cool!
When you wrote about George having very similar shirts, I thought we might be looking at the same case with Catherine and Breton tops!
So many shirts with almost the same style!
Like mother, like so! 😀
These are such wonderful natural photos and the children all look full of beans! And my how George has grown, and how Charlotte’s hair has grown. And what a perky soul Louis looks to be! Good luck working out if his baby set is vintage.
Charlotte’s dress still looks sweet if it’s the same one and George’s shorts look more grown up this time for some reason. When I zoom in on his latest shirt – is that still called a grandpa collar? – I think I can see a contrast neutral stripe in there. Thanks for such a speedy post.
