Today we’ve taken on a tough, boring and thoroughly unenjoyable task (insert wink & smile here): reporting on not-cute-in-the-slightest new childrenswear collections for SS17. We’re showcasing some of the English brands we’ve previously seen on the Prince and Princess of Cambridge, beginning with Rachel Riley’s new arrivals in the nautical style we know Kate loves. First, a new incarnation of the ‘Smocked Set’ for young boys which was a popular look for Prince George at his sister’s christening.
A quick note: for those items shown in £ we also show a rough estimate of the price in $, quoting estimates based on today’s exchange rate.
This season’s version is navy ($189); it is also available at Spring, where it is on sale for $132; and at Saks ($189). We show it here with the girls Polka Dot Pleated Sailor Dress (£79, about $105); on the right, the boys Jersey Sailor Shirt ($75) and Tailored Shorts ($99). The pieces are also available as a set at Childsplay Clothing UK ($80 & they ship to the US), and also at Harrod’s ($93.84).
The nautical vibes continue at The Little White Company, with some more casual styles. We show their Sailboat Knit Cardigan (£34, roughly $45) and Whale Motif Sweater for boys (£30 / $40) below, as well as a darling dress (£32, $41) in a fabric we know Kate favors, broderie anglaise.
Lots of sweet styles have arrived instore at Amaia Kids; the brand is one repeatedly worn by Charlotte, who sports an impressive array of their hair bows (refreshed this season with a polka dot print) and tights. Below, the Rose Dress in blue (£80, roughly $105 at today’s exchange rates); the Chickadee Shirt (£40, about $52) and Gull Shorts for boys; on the right, the Moohren Dress (£110, about $145). Both dresses feature the smocked detailing we know and love.
Trotters deliver some divine girls dresses we wouldn’t be surprised to see Princess Charlotte wear this summer. Left to right, the Catherine Dress (£47 / $61 ), with gorgeous ric-rac trim on the Peter Pan collar; in the center, the Liberty London “Katie and Milli’ print, used for the the Trotters Smocked Dress (£67, about $90); and the Danjo Blue Smocked Dress (£57 / $75) in another Liberty London pattern. We’ve seen Charlotte in many a floral printed smocked dress before, and the detailing and handwork on these pieces are incredible.
For the boys, Trotters released some very cute dungarees this spring. Below left, the Little Toby Dungarees (£44, about $57) in a blue stripe with embroidered Guardsmen on the front pocket; in the middle and to the right, variations of the Little Alexander Bib Shorts – in navy with sailboat embroidery (£37 / $48) and blue gingham with a tiny marching band embroidered on the bib.
We leave you with a special mention of the ‘George’ sweater (£44/$), described by Trotters as being ‘Fit for a Prince!’.
Our thanks to Brooke Nurthen for putting together this delightful post with all the spring styles! I am beginning to think perhaps we need a section of the site for RepliGeorge and RepliCharlotte styles (for lack of a better term); what do you think?
A quick reminder, we’ll be seeing Princess Charlotte and Prince George on the 20th, when they are in their Aunt Pippa’s wedding; Charlotte is a flower girl, and Prince George will be a pageboy. We’ll see you then, if not before.
