As the Queen’s 90th birthday approaches (it is Thursday, the 21st) we are starting to see some photos taken related to the occasion.
One of the photographs was released today. Taken last summer, it shows Her Majesty and the next three generations, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George, in the white drawing room at Buckingham Palace.
The photo is being used for a set of stamps being issued by the Royal Mail. Victoria Murphy has more in The Mirror:
Balancing on gym blocks, Prince George gives a cheeky grin as he appears on a stamp for the first time.
George steals the show in this new family stamp sheet released by Royal Mail for the Queen’s 90th birthday.
If wondering why George is perched atop several foam blocks, The Daily Mail has more:
“He has been raised up a foot to ensure all the principals were at roughly the same height and spaced evenly apart so as to fit neatly inside its own perforated outline on each sheet of four stamps, which will sell for £2.56 – the regular price of four First Class stamps.”
The photographs were taken by Ranald Mackechnie last June. More in Richard Palmer’s story for The Express:
…the photographer and his team spent two half days setting up test shoots beforehand with the blocks before the final shoot.
“The joy and energy coming out of George was fantastic. It lifted the whole shot and lifted the afternoon. He was on top form. He was quite fascinated by the lights. He took it all in his stride.”
More about Prince George’s demeanor during the secretive photoshoot from Gordon Rayner, writing in The Telegraph:
Ranald Mackechnie, who has not even told his wife he took the picture, said: “He was absolutely charming, as you can see from the picture. You only have a short window of opportunity with small children, but Prince George was on good form and everyone seemed to enjoy seeing him enjoy the day.
“He was fascinated by my lights and all the kit, and he was quite happy standing on the blocks. I took maybe 80 or 100 shots, but when I saw this one I knew straight away that was it.”
Royal fashion fans will no doubt recognize what George is wearing, the same ensemble worn for photos taken with his little sister, and worn at the Lindo Wing last May.
Most everything worn by HRH is still available for those interested in purchasing any of the pieces: the Rachel Riley Cord Short & Shirt Set is offered here; George’s knee socks from Amaia Kids in the ‘Blue France’ color are available here; the Start-Rite Jo boys First Walking Shoe is shown here, but does appear to be out of stock.
The stamps may be pre-ordered from the Royal Mail website here.
We should be seeing a new photograph of Princess Charlotte released soon, commemorating her first birthday. We’ll let you know right away on Twitter, as well as on the WKKW Facebook page when that happens.
Well, they got good use out of that expensive shirt, 3 different photographed occasions including a postage stamp. I’d say that’s a good value!
Definitely good value! 🙂
If that’s how big George was then, he’ll have grown a lot by the time he is next seen in public.
He wore them in May and the picture was taken in June the same outfit.
How can those same clothes still fit him? Usually children his age grow out of their clothes every few months. Perhaps the same pieces were purchased in a few sizes. Surely he isn’t wearing the same size he wore almost 1 year ago.
An answer to my own question…the photos were taken last summer!
For some reason George’s head looks Photoshoped?
