George and Charlotte Shine in A New Family Photo UPDATED with George Sweater Info

Posted on December 18, 2015 by WKKW

The Cambridges have released a new family photograph, taken at Kensington Palace in late October.

It’s a wonderful image with the entire family looking relaxed and happy, although Prince William does seem to be keeping an an eye on George, who looks especially vibrant. It was taken by Chris Jelf, a former soldier who served in the Light Dragoons. More from Gordon Rayner’s story in The Telegraph:

Mr Jelf, who was chosen through a recommendation from a friend, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed photographing a very lovely family, although you have to be sharp as you don’t have long when there are two young children involved!

“I hope everyone enjoys this photo and I am honoured that The Duke and Duchess have decided to share it with the public.”

In the new picture George is sporting a Fairisle sweater and Princess Charlotte wears the same outfit seen in photos that were released in November.

A quick refresher: Charlotte’s dress is by Spanish brand M&H, while her pink cardigan remains an UFO (Unidentified Fashion Object). In the photograph you can see that one of Charlotte’s shoes has fallen off and is laying in the grass.

In a comment Hannah wonders if Charlotte might be wearing the ‘Elena’ baby girls shoe by Panyno shown below left. We also had a question from a reader who asked about the Start-Rite ‘Baby Clare’ Pre-walker as a possibility. I would probably rule out the latter option only because the sole of Charlotte’s shoe appears a little darker than the light grey/off-white used for the bottom of the Baby Clare style.

Other options would include a brand new to us that the Duchess likes, Love in Kyò, as well as M&H, they also offer shoes.

We are working on identifying the jumper (sweater) George is wearing.
UPDATE: Once again we hand it to Monique Jessen of People, she has found the manufacturer of George’s sweater. The piece is by another Spanish-based brand, Fina Ejerique. Below, what looks like the sweater in two more colorways, a gray-aqua and mushroom-salmon (my color names), as shown at Pomerania Kids.

The jacquard sweater is a blend of 30% wool and 70% acrylic, hand washing is recommended for the piece. Both remain available as of this writing, they are on sale at 50% off their original price, now selling for 22,99 €, that is roughly $25.

It is also available in the blue George is wearing in sizes 3M – 4 Yrs, offered at Margarita and Co., priced at 29.90 €, about $32.

Fina Ejerique has been in business since 1993; they pride themselves on making “comfortable clothes with a high quality standard and the passion of home-made product,” manufacturing all of their products in Spain.  Below, more styles from this winter’s collection.

On its website the company wrote that it was an honour for their whole team that Prince George wore one of their jumpers for the family’s official Christmas card photo, adding a thank you to the Duchess of Cambridge for choosing the firm.

Underneath the sweater Prince George is wearing what appears to be a basic white polo shirt like many he has worn before. We share a few possibilities below: from left to right: a Neck and Neck top, a Tommy Hilfiger in the center and the Gant version below right.

The young Prince is in a pair of Amaia Kids knee socks and his Start-Rite Jo shoes.

George is wearing a pair of shorts much like the Mayoral boys Shorts and Belt Set seen at Trooping the Colour and polo this past June.

Of course it’s unlikely George would be in the very same pair worn six months ago, he probably would have outgrown them. Below we show the Mayoral shorts at Kit and Kaboodle, where they remain available in very limited sizes.

A tip of the tiara to Monique Jessen of People magazine for discovering the wooden train you see in the picture; it is the Steam Train Pull Along, from Orange Tree Toys. It is an old-fashioned (for some of us!) wooden train that is part of  Orange Tree’s vintage collection; it sells for £14.99, about $23 at today’s exchange rates.

There was also news today that Prince George will be starting nursery school in January. He will attend Westacre Montessori School part-time, here is more from The Telegraph:

A spokesman for the school said: “We are looking forward to welcoming George to our nursery where he will get the same special experience as all of our children.”

Both Prince William and Prince Harry attended Montessori nurseries, though the Duchess of Cambridge went to a local pre-school in Bradfield Southend, Berkshire, where her family lived at the time.

The school is located in a building that used to be a chapel and The Telegraph story notes it is modestly priced in comparison to nursery schools near Kensington Palace.

It is a delight to see a new photo of the family together, we will update the post when we learn more about George’s sweater.

We also have word today about an Italian brand of knitwear Kate that both Charlotte and George wear, Love in Kyò. It is Monique Jessen who discovered the brand; here is more from her story:

Kate loves the luxurious Love in Kyò line so much that she recently asked the designer to make a blue-hooded cashmere coat for 2-year-old George to match a pink one owned by 7-month-old Charlotte, as his size was no longer available.

Here is a look at some of the Love in Kyo styles.

The brand prides itself on the textiles used in its products, described this way on its website:

The yarns, also produced in Italy, are composed of completely natural fibers, such as cashmere, silk-cashmere, cotton-cashmere, Egyptian cotton and extra-fine merinos wool. All the materials are guaranteed as not processed with chemical agents, potentially harming the health (of) children.

Here are a few more styles.

Despite the quality of the wool and cashmere used in the garments and accessories, the company says they are washing machine safe on the gentle cycle. In addition to the cashmere and wool items Love in Kyò also has a line of cotton clothing, including appliqued and smocked pieces.

I imagine we’ll see one or both Cambridge children in this line before too long.

I think Princess Charlotte’s cardi could be the ‘powder pink’ cardi from Bonpoint’s AW15 collection…

It is available from size 6m+

The buttons look different to me, but otherwise the sleeve and color look close. Charlotte’s buttons look pink the ones in your link look white to me.

This was one I had *high* hopes for back when the original photos from Anmer Hall were released, it looked so promising. It isn’t shown in the URL, but the style is made of “sparkly merino” wool, and I don’t see Kate putting Charlotte (or George, for that matter) in a sweater that has glitter/sparkly material. It’s really hard to see it in the photos too, I had to do a search for a hi-res photo before I could see the embellishment, or fiber treatment. It was a great suggestion though! 🙁

I’m delighted to see George break out from the uniform navy of his previous outings and burst into a pattern for his jumper. It seems the Spanish have a near-monopoly on royal baby outfits for now. And his sister is making a bid for repeat outfits already, eminently practical for a little one no doubt growing fast. Her face is acquiring more character every time we see her and she looks cute with with her growing dark hair.

George certainly manages to steal the show here with that wonderful impish grin. I think it’s a lovely touch that the Cambridges chose to honour an ex-soldier with this commission, underlining that there is life after service.

Thanks for a truly comprehensive post — even down to the toy train!

Where I love the new Cambridge Family Photo is precious, I’m really taken how adorable the little boy who is modeling the coat and reindeer sweater. Love how cute children’s clothes are now!
You do an amazing job on these blogs and always look forward to how informative they are. They are my go to for Kate and her children.

Uhmm I have looked again after my definitive statement about the shorts. 🙂 I would have sworn his shorts were a velveteen fabric but maybe not, anyone else want to chime in. Ali

It does appear to me that his shorts have some kind of velvet texture. But it could be the lighting, and (filter) editing.

I think there’s a word missing from the title of this post…… it currently says George and Charlotte have a new family 🙂

Is Charlotte’s pink cardigan the Little White Company cashmere cardigan? http://www.thewhitecompany.com/the-little-white-company/baby/baby-girls/cashmere-cardigan/

No, sadly it is not. 🙁 It’s a great question though, because it is so similar. The biggest difference is the sleeves are full length on the Little White Company and Charlotte’s are just 3/4, or bracelet-length. (The search continues, this may become the holy grail of sweater searches, lol.) 🙂

Couldn’t the difference in the sleeve length just be because Charlotte has slightly outgrown it already? Babies grow fast and it is not unusual for the arms of a top to get short first while the rest of the garment still roughly fits. I wouldn’t rule it out based on sleeve length alone.

I think you’re right; if you look at the family picture, which was taken a month or so before the individual one, the sleeves come down a good inch further on her wrists than in the later picture.

That makes sense, but the White Company has verified to People magazine it is not one of their styles. 🙁
