We are back with a quick christening update, and a look at what Prince George wore on recent occasions.
First, the latest on Princess Charlotte’s christening, just days away now. Kensington Palace announced today they will allow the public to watch the royal family as they arrive and leave St. Mary Magdalene Church this Sunday. The church is on the grounds of Sandringham, the Queen’s estate; it is also where Kate and William’s country home is located.
While the service itself will be private, the public is invited to take part in another way; more from Gordon Rayner’s story in today’s Telegraph:
The royal couple have asked for the paddock outside St Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham, to be opened to the public so they can see the baby before and after her baptism.
The church itself will be open to invited guests only, but thousands of people are expected to turn out for a rare opportunity to see the fourth in line to the throne.
It will be the first time in living memory that the christening of such a senior member of the Royal family has involved the public in any way.
Below, a look at the crowds outside St. Mary’s this past Christmas.
This is the first time we will see the Cambridges as a family of four. We will have more on the christening before the end of the week.
Next, a quick tidbit about George’s attendance at a tea with his parents and celebrities Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. More from Us Weekly:
Middleton and Prince William were “really excited” about the afternoon tea, with a source adding that the royal couple — who were joined by Prince George — actually waited outside their apartment 1A home to greet the Hollywood royal couple.Naturally the Jolie-Pitt’s didn’t arrive empty handed. A source tells Us the couple brought a special gift for the Duke and Duchess to celebrate the arrival of Princess Charlotte, who was born in May.
HRH was later seen wearing the shoes when watching the Festival of Polo with his mother June 14.
George also appears to be wearing the shorts seen at that polo match, his Mayoral boys Shorts and Belt Set. Most recently they were on sale at Childrensalon for $32.97, but the style has sold out at that retailer.
We found the shorts still available at Kit and Kaboodle UK, but only in limited sizes, at a price of £28 (that’s about $45).
The young Prince was also in the same (or very similar) white top worn for the polo match. It looks like a simple white collared top, probably a polo shirt. We show a white Neck and Neck polo shirt below left (€8.99, about $10), and a more upscale version below right, the Rachel Riley Polo Shirt (£69, about $110); I would be surprised if the Duchess would favor such an expensive shirt for a day of play.
The one item we hadn’t previously seen: George’s light blue jumper. The sweater has a polo-style collar, and looks like it is a zip-front. We continue to hunt for this item.
The second set of photos features Prince George and his grandmother, Carole Middleton, at the Bucklebury Farm Park. PopSugar has the exclusive pix, you can see them here. For this outing George wore a pair of Converse All Stars Trainers (aka sneakers in the USA) in navy. Below we show the shoe at Amazon where it is £25, that’s roughly $40 at today’s exchange rates.
This is a classic shoe, available at a plethora of retail outlets around the world. In the US Kohl’s has the shoe for $27.99, while it is $30 at Zappos. In the UK Very has the Trainer for £25; it is the same price at Schuh.
George’s sweater looks like a classic cotton knit. The misty green piece looks like it is a medium-weight cotton knit in a v-neck style, with trim at the waistband and cuffs. The savvy shoppers at Prince George Pieces believe HRH May be wearing another item from Irulea, the Spanish label responsible for Princess Charlotte’s elegant layette set. Below, some of Irulea’s v-neck sweaters.
I think their theory may be correct, but will keep looking for any other possible designers who might be responsible for the sweater.
George was in a pair of shorts we’ve not seen previously, and they have been a challenge to identify. This pair of Neck and Neck Sea Blue Linen Boys Bermudas are very similar. The back pockets and darting are spot on, the length is correct, and the belt loop looks like George’s, plus, Neck and Neck is brand George has worn before.
However…George’s pair appear to either be cuffed or visible have hemming stitches, not seen in the Neck and Neck shorts. Also, I can’t imagine Kate putting him in a fairly dressy linen/cotton blend for a day at the park. (You can zoom in on a photo of George in the shorts by clicking here.) So the hunt continues for these as well.
It has been fun to see more casual picture of George, I only wish they were available from one of the agencies where I license photographs. We will see you before the end of the week with a little pre-christening post.
